Treatment

The Squirrel’s Dream” is based on a traditional story from the Gond tribe of Madhya Pradesh.
It will be a five minute animation film designed by a team of Pardhan Gond artists from Bhopal, under the supervision of tribal coordinator Venkat Shyam, using their traditional art style of bright colorful paintings and intricate patterns.

The film is replete with the popular images of nature depicted in their art.

The hand painted artwork works well for a 2D cut out technique of animation as tested by animators during the workshop to develop the film.  Software such as Flash and After Effects will be used in the animation and compositing.

Jungle sound effects will be used to create a suitably natural atmosphere for the film.
The special instrument of the Pardhan Gonds, the Bana fiddle will be heard in the soundtrack.  The artists will also sing their unique Karma song for the ending of the film.

There will be Hindi and English language versions for national and international screenings.
The film will also be in Santal language for the local audience.

The accomplished Gond artists of Bhopal will create artwork for the film.  They will continue to be involved during the production through interaction with the animators as assistants in the animation of their story.  They have the support of Adivasi Lok Kala Parishad and Vanya Prakashan in Bhopal.

The film will be completed in 2010.
